Grand Falls

Grand Falls is located at 5685 Riverside Drive, Joplin, Missouri, and we visited on June 25, 2023. It is not far from Highway 44. I have wanted to get all the way over to Joplin to see this for a while now, so I am glad that we were able to do so. The falls are located on Shoal Creek and the water drops 12 feet down a 163-foot-wide ledge, but can swell to be wider than the rock ledge when there is a heavy rainfall. There are actually two drops on this water fall and the top one has a smooth flow and the bottom one has a disrupted flow as rapids crash over the rocks. The width is actually more impressive in person than any photo can do it justice.

I loved that the fisherman was walking out to place his chair and rod because it gave me much perspective of not only how large the waterfall itself, but also how shallow the water above. He made it look not so dangerous to walk across, but I am sure he is experienced enough to have the skill to do so and others may not want to traverse there without an experienced person.

I like this shot. As can be seen in the above video, we wandered around and relaxed for a bit from place to place enjoying the different views of the same spot.
