Spring River Park and Kellogg Lake Park

Spring River Park and Kellogg Lake Park are right next to each other and we discovered them while traveling when we crossed over the Highway 96 bridge and saw one of those I-pulled-over-for-this places. We visited on June 25, 2023. The Highway 96 bridge is also part of the Historic Route 66. Spring River Park is located at along Jiminy Lane, Carthage, Missouri. I could not find much online about Spring River Park, but it seems it floods horribly out of its banks during torrential rain events. We almost got in the water with others that were there, but decided not to change into our swim gear. It is truly our kind of place and we could have enjoyed this hidden roadside park for an entire day.

Kellogg Lake Park is run jointly with the city of Carthage and the Missouri Department of Conservation and was built in 1953. We drove around the park as in the video above, but did not stay long as it was an impromptu visit.

On the section where the old bridge across Spring Creek went, that was left after the new bridge was built, I found this graffiti and I appreciated it.

If I lived here, I would certainly be visiting this fabulous park often for outdoor family time or just a daily walk.
