Caplinger Mill

Caplinger Mill is in Caplinger Mills, Cedar County, Missouri, just about 8 miles north of Stockton Lake. It is a small community and there are vacation places to stay here. It is as if it is a little hidden gem to get away. We only visited for a short while on June 26, 2023, but could have stayed here for a few days and relaxed. If you are staying on the lake, be sure to take a drive up to visit this area. The mill is no longer in existence, but the remnants can be see where it was originally built in 1842. A log dam was replaced with this concrete dam in 1911. In 1925 a power house was built at the end of the dam, of which the remnants still exist. The bridge crosses the Sac River.

You can see where the water rushed through to turn the water-powered mill back in the day.

This is a view down river and I could so go and put my chair out in the water there and stay all day!

I liked the unique design and shapes on the bridge.

This is the old power house on the other side of the bridge.

We tried to read the writing on the bridge (see the video) but here I see in this photo the word "condemned."

We walked down under the bridge on the power house side.

This image is intriguing to me as I can see the layers of brick in the old mill as one layer is crumbling away.

Back on the side where we parked, we walked down to the water and we found a swing which we enjoyed! We talked to somebody above us and they told us that it belonged to the owners of that property, but that they allow others to enjoy the swing.
